Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how the operator of the Gather service, referred to here as “Gather,” “we,” or “us,” collects, uses, and shares information. Gather is currently offered only to people aged 18 or older located in the United States.

Information we collect

• Account and profile information: name, display name, username, email address, date of birth to confirm eligibility, profile photo, biography, prompts, social links, and other profile details you provide.
• Optional personal details: phone number, address, gender, interests, and other information you choose to add.
• Events and social content: events, invitations, RSVPs, guest information, schedules, lists, tasks, messages, reactions, photos, comments, shared-expense records, and other content you create or share.
• Location information: event locations and, only when you choose to provide it or enable a location feature, approximate or precise device location.
• Purchases: if paid features are available, plan, entitlement, transaction, Stripe customer, subscription, and payment-status information. Gather does not store your complete payment-card number.
• Support and safety information: support conversations, reports, moderation records, and information needed to investigate abuse or security incidents.
• Technical information: IP address, browser and device information, request and security logs, crash data, and service-performance information.
• Browser storage: authentication cookies and local or session storage used for security, sign-in, and preferences. See our Cookie & Browser Storage Notice.

How we use information

• Provide accounts, events, messaging, media, notifications, maps, weather, shared planning, and other requested features.
• Authenticate users, prevent fraud and abuse, protect accounts, enforce these policies, and moderate reported activity.
• Process purchases and maintain entitlements when paid features are offered.
• Send account, security, support, transaction, and service communications.
• Diagnose failures, maintain reliability, and improve Gather.
• Comply with law and establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.

How information is shared

Gather does not sell personal information and does not use third-party advertising or cross-site advertising trackers. We share information only as described below:

• With other users: according to the feature you use and the audience you choose, such as event participants, message recipients, or people who can view your profile.
• With service providers: vendors supporting delivery and security, authentication, email, payments, diagnostics, maps and geocoding, weather, GIF search, and optional AI assistance. These may include Cloudflare, Google, Stripe, Resend, Sentry, Mapbox and OpenStreetMap-related services, the U.S. Census geocoder, the Norwegian Meteorological Institute, and KLIPY, depending on the feature used.
• For legal and safety reasons: when reasonably necessary to comply with law, respond to valid legal process, investigate fraud or abuse, or protect users, Gather, or others.
• During a business change: if Gather is involved in a financing, reorganization, acquisition, or transfer, subject to applicable law and appropriate protections.

Gather’s primary database and user-content storage run on self-hosted infrastructure in California. Some service providers process limited information on their own systems to perform the services above.

AI-assisted features

If you choose to use an AI-assisted feature, the text, images, or account context needed to answer your request may be sent to the identified AI provider. Do not submit sensitive information that is unnecessary for your request. AI output may be inaccurate and should be reviewed.

Your choices and requests

• Access and export: use the data-download option in Settings when available.
• Correction: edit profile and account details in Gather.
• Deletion: request account deletion from Settings. Gather currently provides a 30-day reactivation period before permanent deletion from active systems.
• Location: control device-location permission through your browser or device and choose whether to use location features.
• Communications: manage available notification preferences in Settings. Essential account, security, and transaction messages may still be sent.

California residents may also request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information, subject to applicable exceptions. We will not discriminate against you for exercising an applicable privacy right. Because Gather does not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, there is currently no sale or advertising-sharing activity to opt out of. Send requests to [email protected]. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request.

Retention and deletion

We retain information while an account is active and as needed for the purposes described above. After the account-deletion grace period, personal information is removed from active systems, subject to limited retention for security, fraud prevention, disputes, legal obligations, transactions, and the rights of other users. Residual copies may remain in protected backups until those backups are overwritten through their normal rotation.

Security

We use safeguards including encryption in transit, access controls, database row-level security, backups, and monitoring. No service can guarantee absolute security. Report a suspected security issue to [email protected].

Age and geographic limits

Gather is not directed to anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. Gather is currently intended only for users located in the United States. If you believe an ineligible person has created an account, contact us.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as Gather changes. We will update the effective date and provide additional notice when required by law.
