Cookie & Browser Storage Notice

Effective and last updated: August 28, 2026

This notice explains how Gather uses cookies, local storage, session storage, and similar browser technologies. Gather currently does not use advertising cookies or cross-site advertising trackers.

Essential authentication and security

  • Authentication cookies maintain your signed-in session, refresh it securely, and separate production and staging accounts.
  • Cloudflare security and Turnstile help deliver Gather, prevent abuse, and verify that public forms are submitted by a person rather than an automated system. Cloudflare may use security cookies or short-lived browser state when required for a challenge.

These technologies are necessary to provide the account or security feature you request. Blocking them may prevent sign-in or other core functionality.

Functional browser storage

Gather uses local or session storage to remember choices on your device, including theme, navigation layout, map view, weather location and cache, current-event shortcuts, tours, announcements, and Gatherling display or behavior preferences. This information generally stays in that browser unless a feature needs to send a selected value—such as a weather location—to provide the requested result.

Diagnostics and performance

  • Cloudflare Web Analytics measures page performance without cookies, local storage, or cross-site tracking.
  • Sentry receives scrubbed crash and limited performance diagnostics so we can identify failures. Gather does not enable Sentry Session Replay during the public beta.

Optional first-party beta analytics

If you select Allow analytics, Gather stores a random browser identifier in local storage and a random visit identifier in session storage. We use them to count consented visits, page paths, selected Gather buttons, broad device class, referring website, campaign tags, active time in a visible recently used tab, and country-level location supplied by Cloudflare. We do not include form contents, private messages, event or photo content, city or precise location, raw IP addresses, account identity, full user-agent strings, or advertising profiles. Raw events are retained for up to 90 days; aggregated operational totals may be retained longer.

Your choices

The analytics choice appears before first-party beta analytics begins. Choose Use necessary only to decline, or Allow analytics to opt in. After you choose, the prompt stays out of the way. Signed-in members can change the selection at any time from Settings > Privacy > Data & analytics. Essential authentication and security storage cannot be disabled inside Gather because it is required for the service you request. Gather does not use advertising cookies or cross-site advertising trackers.
